This is an external sun visor for all VW Type 2 Bay Windows. It is made of aluminum mesh with stainless steel bars and fitting brackets for the ultimate in weatherproofness. It fixes onto the front of your van with 6 self-tapping screws (included).
The colored tape shown is placed for protective purposes only. While many customers like the look, it would be best to remove it and either leave it natural, polish it, or paint it.
Note: Mounted images are shown with temporary C-clamps. Actual mounting involves sheet metal screws (included). Your vertical position of choice will likely vary.
Visor Installation
A bag of brackets and screws is provide to secure the visor to the vehicle. You'll notice that each of the two brackets will only fit one end of the visor (left or right). Use the larger threaded screws and cap nuts to attach the brackets to the visor. The cap nuts are preferred to be visible (i.e. on the outside). However, you may wish to leave them on the inside for a more streamlined look. They'll funtion the same either way. And you may find tightening them to be easier with the nut on the inside.
With regard to fitment, the mounting brackets fit better on the rear of the rain gutter rib that runs down the side of the windshield (forward of the front doors). You will probably want to experiment first with temporary placement to find the optimal position. You can likely use small C-clamps or vise grips to temporary hold the visor in place. Be sure to protect the surrounding paint from damage.
If the visor fitment looks asymmetrical, you may need to tweak or twist it slightly to bring it into alignment with your vehicle. Obviously you would need to do this very carefully so as not to damage the visor. Do this at your own risk!
Important!!! Check the way the visor looks from both inside and outside the cab before drilling your pilot holes.
Decide if you want to use the provided sheet metal screws (or rivets or a screw/nut combination provided by yourself). The drill hole size should match your screw/rivet hardware selection. Once the holes have been drilled, it's recommended that you properly treat any exposed bare metal to discourage rust.
Attach visor and enjoy!
